Carlos Villa

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to be part of a group of distinguished panelist lucky enough to tell their most cherished story about Carlos Villa. This event was in conjunction with the launch of his book – CARLOS VILLA AND THE INTEGRITY OF SPACES and his amazing solo show (Manongs, Some Doors and a Bouquet of Crates) at the Mission Cultural Center. It was pretty much a reunion of various generations of artists touched by Carlos in one way or another. The stories were all great. One story that was common was that Carlos had a sense of believing in you .. even before you believed in yourself. Let’s just say that everyone that he’s taught, he’s worked with and/or has mentored has evolved into a success in their own rite. Thank you Carlos (and Nicole, Maurizzio and Moira)…it was an amazing evening. photos: Megan Wilson
