Epic MOM visit

So the story goes – mom was supposed to visit last year during Thanksgiving. Unfortunately mom ended up having a few medical emergencies (she fell, was in ER for weeks – then she had a stroke; another stint in ER for weeks). So we decided to travel together while my sister visited Arielle and Leanne in Kentucky and Missouri for 3 months. It began with me flying to San Diego to help mom pack up. During that time we discovered TFC! What this meant is that she could take this with her anywhere. Then we packed it all up and headed to the San Diego train station at 6am. We started our train journey to the Bay Area. She was like a kid – it had been 53 years since she rode the train. When she first landed to the states, she met my father in the Bay Area and they took a train cross country from Crockett, CA to Pensicola, FLA. Managed to get a sleeper car, which made the travel very comfortable. They delivered meals, exchanged stories when mom wasn’t sleeping and took in the sights from the picture window. I do like train travel, though it’s not any cheaper – it’s mainly a pleasurable luxury. Took mom a few days to get acclimated – but when she did we ended up doing a bunch of things like visiting the Church of Light in Oakland, Ranch 99, visits with relatives, which included a quick trip to Cache Creek Casino. All in all a great visit, especially since mom hasn’t had a travel experience this epic since before dad passed away

Watermelon Woman 3.0

For this show, veilleicht will have a reprise as well as another (title yet to be determined) piece. Watching Watermelon Woman again reminded me of queer cinema in the mid-late 90’s when film was film, video was JUST emerging and non-linear editing was barely busting out (for a steep price). The content and themes this piece portrays are still relevant…glad to be part of this show. Also glad to know Cheryl is part of the Academy, well deserved and necessary! (come a long way from Turin’s LGBT FF we were both in back in 1998 – good times). Catch the show and watch the film – it’s on Amazon Prime.

ADDENDUM: opening is actually August 5th  for First Fridays in Oakland.

blogging…

things have changed since the exceleration of social media sites and mobile devices. getting re-acquainted to this forum, an (un) safe haven of thought in that this will never be part of an RSS feed or suggested blogs te read, where liking or ❤️’ing does not exist – and yet I get to share for those  interested. It’s like the analog way of navigating. At any rate .. an exciting new re-discovery. Video of a shifting city – Oakland (on my way to Castro Valley via BART)

Bridges of Mud and Feathers redux

got a little sidetracked from the other show i’m working on. I came across this fantastic footage of amazing performers – Lady Samar and Midori. 4 years ago I was privileged to be part of the documentation crew for Bridge of Mud and Feathers – where I would create a video from amazing – moving performance. Instead, after the project, I ended up piecing together the straight forward documentation as the live streaming did not work, which unfortunately didn’t leave me much energy to do something creative with the footage. One day, this piece will be re-presented and a large scale projection will happen.  Anyhow – just a quick little diddy – inspired by kiasmos and gorgeous footage. one my most cherished experiences
