the BARN

before I headed out to Djerassi back in mid-Jan, Paz and I decided we wanted to do something in the Barn. Since we’ve been doing the MPU project for awhile, a projection seemed appropriate. It was pretty much free form. I was working on my Sankhara / Volition piece and Paz was working with the natural elements on the land. The evening culminated into a sight, sound and tastebud extravaganza. We invited Mauro who played a John Cage piece. We ended up projecting our pieces and interestingly enough – it worked out very well with the architecture of the Barn. Afterward we all celebrated with a feast – thanks to Paz, Mauro, Brian, Sarah, Derek, Nehara, Frank and Cage! The menu consisted of lamb, pasta with chantrelles and chicken sausage, bulgogi, 2 salads, brocolli, bread, butter, wine, champagne, lacies and pie! And for our nightcap, we were privileged to listen to Mauro and Sarah playing some impromptu tango! A wonderful celebration..of course with our beloved Diesel in mind…

Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) established in 1990 has been on the forefront of protecting our freedoms in the networked world. They are the first line of defense in confronting cutting-edge issues defending free speech, privacy, innovation and consumer rights.

Kellie Brownell helps EFF keep intouch with its many and wonderful major donors. Before protecting digital rights, she advocated for the performing arts as a fundraiser at orchestras, operas, and theaters in the US, Canada, and Germany. She majored in Medieval Studies and wrote her masters thesis on philanthropy both at Stanford University. A bit of computer history trivia: Kellie worked one summer at an office in DEC’s Maynard Mill, long after its heyday. Her hair was cut as an homage to the community of creative hackers who helped fund raise for EFF at Defcon 18.

The Ada Initiative supports the work of women in open source, open data, and other open technology and culture organizations.

Valerie Aurora has over ten years of experience as both a Linux kernel developer and as a women in open source advocate. She worked as an operating systems developer for several leading open source companies, including Red Hat, IBM, and Sun Microsystems.  She designed, wrote code, and conducted research in the fields of file systems and networking. During the same period, she contributed over 5000 hours of volunteer time as a leading women in open source advocate.

back to reality…

For the past month I have had the privilege to cleanse and purge literally everything in my life. starting with my vipassana retreat (a mind-colonic), then my artistic retreat in conjunction with a master cleanse topped off with colonic hydrotherapy from my favorite nurse ivy…and now…my space 36a – have to share images as 36a has never been this empty since 95 when I first moved in. I’m carefully deciding what stays in my house and what goes – a process I’m thoroughly enjoying. The most cherished objects thus far is pictured after my space. Starting again indeed….looking forward to sits in this space. One last thing…I LOVE BEING BACK IN THE CITY!!!!!!!!!! I am definitely not an East Bay person (at least you can’t say I didn’t give it a shot).

final thoughts..

pictured below are sketches from the two weeks in the studio. being on a cleanse, being ever so reclusive and not being disturbed  – except for sharing great conversation, visits and crits with dave, nalani and myron – I felt like my focus has sharpened. i’m currently putting together some great programming for the lsps – one i’m particularly excited about is a celebration for IWD. I was also able to connect some dots with a few tangaental works I’ve been dealing with ever since 2007 (believe it or not). Gaining some headway on the BSA project. And starting on a new Project. All very burgeoning.
