M.T.O.

Our first Sunday here and we were lucky to get together with our pal Juan…He turned us onto the “M.T.O.” – what it stands for, we do not know. All I know is that after our little session…our feetsies were so thoroughly satisfied. The Filipino knows how to service the foot properly….the best anywhere i’ve been. As Juan puts it “you’ll never find anyone else to love your feet the way they do here..” Secretly, I kinda wished we saved all the foot funk to make a nice sculpture.

Somaly Mam

I vaguely remember a few years ago Susan Sarandon talking ALOT about Somaly Mam, now I understand. While in Cambodia I was able to read her book – A Road of Lost Innocence. I have to say – being in Phnom Penh, experiencing the environment and reflecting on her stories – one can’t help but to become engaged. What makes her plight different from NGO’s/Religious Organizations is that she’s fighting back from experience. Check out “Stolen Innocence” out on YouTube…for some reason I can’t link up the site through this blog..but you could cut and paste this URL in your browser http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4ieL2PezjE (it’s very very eye opening) Here’s Somaly site URL – somaly.org. Corruption, economy and the country’s war torn history definitely plays a role in keeping human trafficking and sexual slavery alive. But please note – this is happening EVERYWHERE around the world. Oh yeah – she was named one of TIME Magazines’ 2009 Top 100 most influential people in the world – check out the article written by Angelina (TIME’s MOST influential person) by clicking on Somaly’s image.

Reminiscing – Full Circle

getting alittle more settled here in Manila. at the Living Room where it all started 2 years ago. it’s currently a race between catching up (with all the pictures taken in Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia), being in present time and reflecting. I can’t believe 2 years have gone by. I have to say though, I have nothing tangible (except the stamps on my passport) to show for it – I have a wealth of eye opening experiences to access. Another thing I realized is that its pretty tough deciphering between past, present and future all at once (age perhaps?). Since leaving the 12yr suit gig and becoming a sort of freelancer – the skill of multi-tasking has been challenging. All that aside, I find it auspicious that I get to begin the next phase of my life at 40…and all I can say is – yes – it’s getting better. here are some images from 2 yrs ago
