Coronation Night

the evening we were suppose to go to the girlie clubs at Pat-Pong was the very same evening the Coronation celebration occurred. we found this out the hard way by attempting to take a taxi from where we were – Banglamphu – to the Riverside/Silom area. Firstly there was bumper to bumper traffic and no one wanted to pick us up. Once we finally got into the taxi the taxi driver asked us where we wanted to go – we said “PatPong” – he laughed and said – “Oh you want to see ping-pong show” then he suggested “no good tonight – go tomorrow – it will take 2 hrs to get there – king – celebration” so we agreed. once we got out of the taxi – not even a mile from where the taxi picked us up – we noticed everyone milling around…walking everywhere…then noticed the celebration on Ratchadamnoen Klang (what would be equivalent to Market St.). All the main streets were shut down…we ended up spending the whole evening walking around and soaking of the festivities…a much better alternative than watching gross white pasty men propositioning 12yr olds. here are some images.

Jakarta..on the way to Bangkok

Decided to take an “executive class” train from Yogyakarta to Jakarta to catch our flight to Bangkok. 12 hrs later we arrived Jakarta at approximately 6am. Our flight for Bangkok didn’t leave until noon so we decided to freshen up a bit at one of those airport hotels (first time for me). Let me tell you…..it worked wonders – we arrived Bangkok clean and refreshed! Here are some pictures.

Ramayana Ballet

On the last full evening in Yogya Megan took me to the Ramayana Ballet – the myth of Rama and Sita. It was an open air theater – which was completely supurb!
