sankhara
new project…here’s the wikipedia translation:
Saṅkhāra or saṃskāra is a term figuring prominently in the teaching of the Buddha. The word means “that which has been put together” and “that which puts together”. In the first (passive) sense, saṅkhāra refers to conditioned phenomena generally but specifically to all mental “dispositions”. These are called “volitional formations” both because they are formed as a result of volition and because they are causes for the arising of future volitional actions. In the second (active) sense of the word, saṅkhāra refers to that faculty of the mind/brain apparatus (sankhara-khandha) that puts together those formations. English translations for saṅkhāra in the first sense of the word include “conditioned things”,”determinations”, “fabrications” and “formations” (or, particularly when referring to mental processes, “volitional formations”).
This piece came to me while at the vipassana retreat. In some ways it coincides with my whole exploration of belief systems, how they are created and self-reflection. This piece placed in the corner works best with the imagery..but ultimately I imagine strips of light (projections) containing several vignettes of what our sankharas may be or are – creating a chaotic criss-cross of light, where several things are all going on at once…similar to how our mind operates. The project is in its nascent stage but is going in a direction that makes perfect sense to me. more later…(forgive the sutters..in camera editing)
