September Activities…
for labor day week/end – the plan is to get ready for a few shows. breaking it down, here are some great projects I’m partaking in.
1. Luggage Store Projection Series. For the month of September The Messaging of the Political will be projecting at LS’ Projection Space
During the August haitus I was brainstorming on what direction i’d like to bring the Projection Series to. Rolling it back from the beginning..I was under the impression that the series would continue till July. Luckily the Luggage Store Gallery is interested in maintaining the programming for as long as they can. So amidst the political and economical climate, I decided to look at how political messaging and how it’s been used throughout the years. read more here
2. Buffet Flats at the TNL – I will be presenting a new installation/video projection for this wonderful magical Queering Slow Food EVENT!
3. Carlos Villa – I will be a panelist on September 16, where Theo Gonzalvez will be launching Carlos’ new book “Carlos Villa and the Integrity of Spaces”.
4. MOB/EBX in Hawaii – a show curated by Jenifer Wofford. Slightly the usual suspects (MOB/John and moi) – but as discussed with Jenifer, this show is mainly an introduction to Bay Area Filipino/American art for the students at the U of H. This October, Carlos will be going to share his infinite wisdom to the students there. And knowing Carlos, his teachings and inspirations will be infectious in a good way – look at the Bay Area Filipino Art Scene..there are currently a few classes sprinkled around the university system that focuses on Filipino-American art.
5. CIO – we’re currently rounding up a few folks for our imposed PA month….political awareness month. We will be screening “Living Without Money” at ATA, which will be a definite discussion starter. I had a conversation with a friend about my participation with Capitalism is Over and the question was asked – paraphrasing, “how can you be so active in this with all your goods, technology and lifestyle?” I discussed my hesitancy about anything political – but I came to the realization that being passionate in treating our environment and each other in a good way has inadvertently become political and CIO! isn’t proselytizing that Capitalism should end…but about calling attention to alternative approaches to our economic system. Anyhow in conjunction with event, CIO created an installation at the RIGHT WINDOW.
There you have it in a nutshell…but i’ll definitely be sending out a newsletter…
